95 and Still Pickin'

My Grandpas is AMAZING! He defines the phrase, "living to the fullest". He is 95 years old and this fall he got back on that combine, which he hasn't done in years and years. He kept teasing my dad and uncle (who run the farm) that he was going to drive the combine this year. Well my dad wanted to see if he was bluffing and guess what? He wasn't. He crawled up there (on his own) and sat right down. My dad rode along with him but he truly did all the work. When he was done I went up to him to asked him how it went and his face told the story. He was beaming. He stated, "I'm slow but I catch on!". He usually spends most of the day running chisel plow or stalk chopper so this was a special day.

I admire my grandfather for so many reasons but mostly I admire him for his attitude towards life. I have never seen my grandpa loose his cool. I have never seen him get upset about anything. Days come and go and you have to make the most of each day. He lives by that philosophy. I try my hardest to duplicate that in myself but let me tell you I am not as successful as my grandpa. Maybe by the time I am 95 I will have it down like he does. Until then I'll keep trying and keep learning from a man I love so very much. He is amazing and a blessing to all who know him.

My brother Darrin who lives in Washington DC decided to take a week of vacation and spend it helping out with the harvest.  I think he enjoyed himself and I know my Dad enjoyed having him help out.

The weekend of the Twin City 10 mile run we stayed at Jim and Denise's.

Medtronic TC 10 Mile 2010

 The Malecek crew did the Twin City 10 mile run on 10/3/2010.

It was a bit cold out if you can tell.

 But as we got running we soon warmed up.

 We all finished and were able to get our shirts. 

 I gotta say... there has gotta be an easy way to get a t-shirt!!

Pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins

 Like the Muskmelon and Watermelon we had an excellent crop of Pumpkins and Gourds this year.

 This selection here... is not even half of the total. 

They were all so big and nicely shaped.

Sohre Family Fun

We spent the weekend and my Mom and Dad's.  We had a blast.

The weather was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L.

 We spent the Saturday at the cabin and of course we didn't bring swimsuits... who would of thought the kids would go in the lake in Ocotober???  Crazy nice weather!

Sunday we spent the day on the farm doing all kinds of fun stuff.

The weather again was just B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!

The reason for the weekend get-together was brother Darrin was home from DC.

We haven't seen him since last Christmas, so the visit was soooo much welcomed.

Lots of good food. Lots of good family fun.

Happy #2 Birthday Zachy!

 Dear Zachariah turned 2 years old Oct. 1st.  Gracie wanted to get him an Ice Cream Cake, so we did.

We celebrated at home on his birthday and then again on the weekend with the Malecek's at Auntie Denise and Uncle Jim's house.

 We gave him a toy music set, but I think Marty liked playing with it just as much as the kids!

 He got his first big tractor from Grandma and Grandpa Malecek.
He immediately went to town and started driving it around.

 The second birthday cake.  I guess he is destined to be a farm boy.

 He wanted so bad to take that tractor off the cake. Gracie enjoyed licking the frosting.
